Hello all! Just letting you know, after a slight delay, matching is going on, and your assignments should be going out sometime today. If you don't have your assignment by midnight tonight, please let me know ASAP!

ETA: ASSIGNMENTS ARE OUT! LET THE WRITING BEGIN! :D

Please, please, please sign up for pinch-hitting* here. Last year there were a few fics that needed pinch-hitting, and it'll probably happen this round too.

Same rules apply as when signing up for beta duty. You don't have to be a participant in the exchange to be a pinch-hitter, just someone who can turn around a thousand word fic in a short time frame.

*Pinch-hitting is what happens when a writer drops out of the exchange for whatever reason and someone steps up to write the abandoned request. That someone is the pinch-hitter.

This post will be screened. Your name will be added to the pinch-hitter list, and if we need a pinch hitter, you'll receive an email with the prompt details.

Info about the freeform tags (thank you, [personal profile] aurilly!):

Freeform Tags & Glossary!

NOTE: Because there was some confusion about this in previous years:

Remember, if you have multiple prompts, you can make multiple (up to five) requests! All your prompts don't have to be in one request. I am mentioning this because last year some people's prompts had more characters than they had requested, because you can only request five characters per request. But if you make more than one request, you can request more characters.

Also, if you are requesting relationships, make sure to request those characters as well! The matching will be done by characters first! If you haven't requested those characters, but want them in a relationship, you're unlikely to be matched on those.

Here is an example of how multiple requests would look... )

So you can see I had five prompts, so I made five requests. I was able to request more than five characters, because I used the multiple requests. I also requested relationships, AND the characters involved in those relationships.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in comments, or email to narniaficexchange@gmail.com

Last call for tagset nominations! You can nominate HERE. I'll update the glossary below with anything that gets nominated by tomorrow.

Below is a glossary of the freeform tags for this year's exchange. Please remember that you don't need to use them! They are here a) to specify if you want a story about your requested character(s) in a particular setting or dealing with a specific concept and b) for people want world-building fic and don't care which characters it’s about. Whether or not you use the tags, you should use the text boxes in the sign-up form to explain what you’re looking for.

Just letting you know, it's time to start nominating tags!

NFE 2017 Tag Set

For fandom, we're just using Chronicles of Narnia - C.S. Lewis.

You can nominate up to ten characters, up to ten relationships, and up to ten freeforms.

Here's last year's Tag Set, so you can get ideas from there. If there are any questions, please let us know!

[personal profile] lady_songsmith and [personal profile] aurilly are onboard again as mods, so a hello from all of us to both returning and new NFE folks! Welcome to our new home on Dreamwidth. You don't need a DW journal to participate in the NFE, and can comment anonymously, but please make sure to sign your comment/leave an email if you are a participant/need a follow up.

We'll be running on AO3 again this year. If you need a code for AO3, just leave a comment here with your email, or email narniaficexchange@gmail.com or snacky8@gmail.com and I'll send you one.

Collection on AO3

Tag Set

Tag nominations will open soon, so start thinking of tags! It will work the same way it did last year, and here's last year's Tag Set to refresh your memory. [personal profile] aurilly is the Tag Goddess, so keep your eyes peeled for some posts from her on the topic.

Here is the TENTATIVE* schedule for the exchange:

Tag nominations open: July 5th
Signups open: July 12th
Signups close: July 21st
Assignments sent out: by July 24th
Fics due: anytime before August 26th
Prompts Revealed/Madness: July 13th - September 2nd
Main collection opens: September 3rd
Authors revealed: September 10th

*Reasons for the tentativeness of this schedule: getting tags finalized before the assignments go out, and any AO3 glitches like last year where I couldn't generate assignments. I will make sure to update the schedule in this comm, if there are changes.

This year instead of a Madness/Treats collection, we'll be posting treats in the main collection. You will need to tag them as treats. Prompts will be revealed about two weeks into the writing period, and that will give you time to write treats. Due to the reveal of prompts, obviously the exchange will not be double-blind (as it used to be in years past) and you will know who you are writing for.

As usual, Madness is not mandatory, but it's always fun. And if you choose not to participate in the Main Exchange and just in Madness, that's fine!

If people want to write "Dear NFE Writer" letters and post them on LJ/Dreamwidth/Tumblr/wherever, that is fine, but not mandatory! You can put everything you want in your signup, if you like.

In the past, you've been allowed to request crossovers, and fic set in other people's fanverses. You can still do that, but those will have to go in the optional details part of the signup. You cannot request crossovers and fanverses only, though, as your assigned writer may not be familiar with the other fandom/fanverse. So remember to include some canonical requests.

There will also be a box in the offer part of the signup where you, as a writer, can talk about what you like to write, and also put ONE OR TWO dealbreakers of what you can't write (for example, "no incest and I hate Edmund Pevensie"). Bear in mind that it would be extremely unlikely (I mean, it's never ever happened before) in this exchange for you to say, "I can't write slash" and then get matched to someone who only requests slash. Most participants offer several options of what they want, and I don't see this changing.

Okay, I think that's it for now. Start thinking up tags, watch this space for more announcements, and ask any questions you have and we will try to answer them! You can email at narniaficexchange@gmail.com too.

New home!

Hello! We've moved here from LJ.

Nothing to report for the moment, but the NFE will run this summer, as usual, so stay tuned.
[identity profile] nfe-gremlin.livejournal.com
If this is your first time signing up for the NFE, and you have any questions or concerns about it, please feel free to ask them here. And people who have participated in the past, feel free to help out and answer.

One specific thing I wanted to note: You do not need to have a Livejournal in order to participate in the NFE. You can sign up via an anonymous comment, and as long as you have an email address we can reach you at, that's all you need. A Livejournal account is helpful, but not mandatory, for participating in the NFE - the mods will do all the posting, and anonymous comments are always enabled. We just ask that you identify yourself in any comment you leave, so we'll know who it is from.

So any questions you have about prompts, requests, what you do not want to receive, what you do not want to write, and anything else you can think of, go ahead and ask away!
[identity profile] nfe-gremlin.livejournal.com
The signups for the Narnia Fic Exchange 2013 are finally open! Fill out the form below and that's all you have to do.

Signups close June 19th. You will receive your prompt by June 24th. Then you'll have until August 19th to work on your fic, and send it in. That's 8 weeks and should be plenty of time for you all to finish your stories. We hope. ;)

Copy and paste this into the comments and fill it out. All comments will be screened.

The Narnia Fic Exchange is an annual anonymous fic exchange, similar to Secret Santas and other fanwork gift exchanges.

Participants submit a request, with prompt ideas such as characters, situations, and themes. The mods match these requests with another participant, who then writes the requested fic. All participants receive a fic based on their request/prompt. The authors are anonymous until all the stories have been posted.

Please read this thoroughly before signing up for the exchange.

Important dates:
Signups open: June 9
Signups close: June 19
Prompts sent out: by June 24
Fics due: anytime before August 19
Posting begins: August 26

Most important:

1) You must submit a story of 1000 words by the deadline. If you need an extension, you must contact us before the deadline to arrange this. If the deadline passes and we do not have your fic, it will be assigned to a pinch-hitter.

2) You must use a beta. Repeat: YOU MUST USE A BETA. Repeat one more time: YOU MUST USE A BETA. If you do not have a beta, check our beta post. If you turn in an unbetaed story, it will be returned to you for corrections. If you do not return the story with corrections, your assignment will got to a pinch-hitter.

3) If you need to drop out (which, no problem, life happens and we totally understand this, having dropped out of exchanges/challenges ourselves!), YOU MUST CONTACT US TO LET US KNOW. There are many ways to contact us: via email, via PM, or via comment on an admin post in the comm. If you drop out without contacting us, you may be banned from future fic exchanges. We have been burned too many times and had to scramble to find pinch-hitters to want to give unlimited chances. There is no penalty for dropping out, as long as you let us know.

4) Your fic must be formatted to post on Livejournal. You will find information on how to do this here.

Summary: You must submit a beta-read story of 1000 words by the deadline. If you need an extension, you must contact us to arrange this. If you need to drop out, you must contact us to let us know, or else you may be banned from future exchanges. You must format your fic correctly for posting on LJ; if you need help with this, let us know.

Hello everyone!

First up, here's the link to [livejournal.com profile] tantella's story that she wrote for the Big Bang:

Until Lambs Become Lions

Go, read, tell her how wonderful it was. We'll be here when you get back. :)

*************

Okay, now that you're back, our second topic is the Narnia Fic Exchange.

After looking at the survey results, I see that many people want a longer writing time. So this year, you'll have 8 weeks of writing time (and maybe a few extra days depending on how long it takes to match everyone up)! Now, you don't have to take all this time - if you were fine with the shorter writing period, and your story is finished beforehand, feel free to send it along when it's done. This is for the people who wanted more time. But remember, it's still a minimum of 1000 words - it doesn't increase because of the longer writing time, do not worry.

Of course, if you want to write a longer story, that would be great! As long as you want, and everyone will be happy. But the minimum is 1000 words.

Here's the dates you need to know:

Signups open: June 9
Signups close: June 19
Prompts sent out: by June 24
Fics due: anytime before August 19
Posting begins: August 26

Here are your basic rules:

1) You must submit a story of 1000 words by the deadline. If you need an extension, you must contact us before the deadline to arrange this. If the deadline passes and we do not have your fic, it will be assigned to a pinch-hitter.

2) You must use a beta. If you turn in an unbetaed story, it will be returned to you for corrections.

3) If you need to drop out, YOU NEED TO CONTACT US TO LET US KNOW.If you drop out without contacting us, you may be banned from future fic exchanges.

4) Your fic must be formatted to post on Livejournal. In the longer rules post (to come), there will be information on how to do this.

Those are the basics - more information with be posted when signups open.

If you have any questions, please comment here, or feel free to email to narniaficexchange@gmail.com!

Hello, folks! Now that the Big Bang is completed, your mods have been discussing this summer's Narnia Fic Exchange.

We're considering moving the NFE off Livejournal to the Archive of Our Own. For those of you unfamiliar with AO3, it's a multifandom archive that hosts fanfic, fanart, podfic and fanvids.

One thing the AO3 does is host fic exchanges (two big ones are Yuletide and Remix Redux). I help in modding Remix Redux, and I have noticed how it makes things easier, in terms of modding, by hosting the exchange there.

Two main reasons we are thinking of moving:

1) Authors would be responsible for formatting and uploading their fic by deadline.

2) The ease of dropping out for participants. If the NFE is on AO3, people would not have to contact us, all they would have to do is click a button and they would drop out and we would be automatically notified.

Other things we can do at AO3: we can reveal one story a day, just like we do on LJ. There's an option to reveal all the stories at once, but most people seem to like the reveal of one fic a day. We can also do automated matching for writers and recipients, and assign pinch-hitters for defaulters.

The AO3 staff have answered a few questions I have had already about the exchange, and I have been playing around with creating the collection and seeing how to manage it.

And if you don't have an account on AO3, don't worry about it - I can request account codes for all the people who need them. I feel like we could have a good experience on AO3.

The biggest concern I see about moving off of LJ is that people don't like change. I understand! I do not like change myself! But this is a post for discussion and questions, so if you have other concerns, you can bring them up here.
