This was a beautiful story and character study. I really like the longing that can't quite be named and acted upon, as Aurilly says, it's repressed and uncertain. Susan who tries to transcend it and Edmund who cannot. I love, love the part with the siren, Edmund being tempted, Susan making her claim and then the brave Bolger saving them both. There is great parallelism throughout the story but I just adore the excitement and thrills of that passage, the passion and the evil, and the Bear who'd just like some honey mead for his trouble who comes to the rescue of both.
The sensation throughout is also delicious for lack of a better word -- the honey and mead, the light, the oranges and sea salt. The subtle way they acknowledge that Narnia is still alive for her as well as for him in the shared memory of the rescue and the honey mead was amazing. This was so well done, so layered, so beautiful. Both characterizations were amazingly rich and detailed, two damaged pieces of an imperfect whole.
