This is such a unique and original story! I love the origin of the bearded glass and the worldbuilding in both Narnias. The girl Edmund, Edaline, is a terrific device. I adore the images of the Wyverns and the court magicians and the joking but sort of malicious pixies.
I laughed very hard about conjuring girls and I adore the Guard. The bit about not bleeding on the books seemed just perfect and so very Narnian – also the idea that the book itself knows what the person should and should not be doing.
I am so glad that Edmund agrees with Edaline about the quest! And how nice to see Tumnus, a character that for all that he is canon and in the film, is simply not seen all that much in fic! “She always overpacks in my Narnia!” Edmund’s reaction to Peter kissing Edaline! There are so many lovely, fun moments here!
I adore to the transition from all is well to Edaline tied to a tree.
The Western Wild is such a trippy delightful place. I love the creatures and the pixies and it’s all just so delightfully weird. The fanged, winged smoking rabbit is just sooo oddball in the best sort of way – it’s like he walked out of Tim Burton’s imagination and into Narnia. And the lamb trees… oh my goodness.
I love the power of tears in this. That it is Edaline’s strength, as a girl, that brings these wonderful things into Narnia. The end is delightful as we learn the final disposition of the mirror. Excellent story, and terrific fulfillment of the prompt!
