Wow, what a poignant character study on Susan! This is absolutely gorgeous and heartbreaking. I teared up right around the middle, just as Susan learns of the train wreck. I love how you've managed to tie each part of Susan's life to the sea that she so loves, and the distinction that this is not a punishment for her to be left behind, and that she finally learns that it is easier to let out the emotion than to bottle it in.
