I didn't even think twice about the pairing, actually. I think it's the knight aspect of Reepicheep's character -- the whole courtly love business being about adoration, inspiration, and "spiritual" rather than "carnal" love -- which your title highlights. That was so obvious to me that I realized in retrospect that some people might worry about bestiality or something.
