Big Bang Artwork: To Every Thing There Is a Season

Title: To Every Thing There Is a Season
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] i_autumnheart
Artist's Notes: I have made two paintings as illustrations for "To everything there is a Season" by Elizabeth Culmer. Both rated G, non-spoilery for any other story (as far as I know) and the medium is gouache on paper.

Really beautiful illustrations.
Especially love the galloping horses piece.

I continue to think these are absolutely AWESOME. I especially like the colors in "Escape from Had Ordjah," and the way you can see Chlamash carrying Urcharooh Tarkaan's son. And I love how Ilgamuth so obviously cares about his horses in both pictures. :-)

I'm glad you liked them!
I'll admit to being pleased with how they came out - but having such vivid scenes to illustrate was a big part of that!

So I have not read the story yet, but these are just beautiful. I love the relationship btween Ilgamuth and his horse and the colors and the sense of stylized action. These are terrific and I am just certain that they are perfect for the story to come. They are so vivid and seem so very perfect to a particular era. I know nothing of art but I do love these very much for what they evoke of Calormen.

Lovely drawings! I especially like the group scene and the colors you used remind me a lot of a piece of very vivid tapestry or stained glass.

Both the illustrations are gorgeous and make me so excited to read the fic itself. You are very talented. The choice of color and the overall tone, especially in the second piece is perfect.

Thanks - the style for the Escape is loosely based on the art of the Mughal Empire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mughal_painting)in India, which [livejournal.com profile] edenfalling has said is a part of her inspiration for Calormene as well. It has a fabulous mix of Persian, Hindu, Chinese and even Mediterranean influences, and a much greater emphasis on portraiture than most Islamic styles. The colour-saturation in these two images is rather more from the western tradition of illumination, partly because that's my usual style, and partly because those are all the pigments I had on hand.

Thankyou - and you're spot on with the analogy, as the styles of art I was trying to imitate (the 'Illumination' part of an illuminated manuscript) were used for tapestries and in western stained glass as well. I'm glad I managed to hit that part!

Thank you very much - both were fun to paint, and choosing just two scenes from the splendid fic they go along with was definitely tricky.

Oh I do so those influences! Really just a stunning job with the style and the color. You have done a wonderful job.

Those are gorgeous! They remind me of something out of an illuminated manuscript.

Oh these are lovely! I really like the colors. And the movement!
