It's funny, Bolger the Bear was just meant to be a one-off humorous mention when they first boarded the ship, and then he became so much more as things progressed. I've always loved the Bulgy Bear in Prince Caspian who can't help sucking his paws, so I like to think Bolger is a distant ancestor of his.
