Narnia Fic Challenge

The authors have been revealed! And we're done with another year.

Thank you all, as always, for another successful exchange. I always have so much fun with this exchange every year, and the stories are always fantastic. Special thanks to Aurilly for going aboce and beyond with the tagset, and to Songsmith for her willingness.

The collection will open today around 4 pm ET (I say around just in case I'm a few minutes late, I don't want anyone to panic). At 3 pm I will post a one hour warning, so if anyone is working on last minute treats, you will know just how much time you have.

Hello all!

We have reached the final day of writing! That's right, we've reached deadline! Your stories are due by midnight tonight.

Note on timezones: for me, midnight is Eastern time. For you, midnight is whatever timezone you're in. I'm not strict on timezones, and to be honest, I'll be asleep by midnight (I am old and tired, alas). So as long as they're in by Sunday morning when I wake up and check (let's say 9 am my time), you're good.

Remember, although you can polish up your fic after deadline, the stories you submit tonight should pass the bus test: if you're hit by a bus tomorrow, the story will still be a fine gift for your recipient (complete, and at least 1000 words).

Good luck with the last minute writing! I can't wait to see all the stories in the archive tomorrow!

Hello everyone! Matching is done and assignments will be going out a little later tonight.

A few notes:

* Although we attempted to match on characters AND freeforms, this wasn't possible (mainly because not all requests and offers featured freeforms).

* People matched on characters requested and offered (individual characters, and character groups). There are some freeform matches but not all.

* Please treat the freeform tags as usual -- the are additional prompts and details that your recipient would like in their story, but you don't have to write them all. Use them as inspiration!

Please, please, please sign up for pinch-hitting here. Last year there were a few fics that needed pinch-hitting, and it'll probably happen this round too.

Same rules apply as when signing up for beta duty. You don't have to be a participant in the exchange to be a pinch-hitter, just someone who can turn around a thousand word fic in a short time frame.

THINGS OF NOTE:

1) Reminder: as with last year, you cannot request "any." We had too many problems with matching, and aurilly made the tags more specific for this reason. However, you can still offer "any", but only offer it if you're open to really writing anyone/thing.


2) New thing: you can only request relationships as characters. Hopefully this is not too confusing! You will see in the tag set characters groupings which are either platonic (e.g., "Group: Character A & Character B") or romantic/sexual (e.g., "Group: Character A/Character B").

This means if you want a specific combo of characters (either platonic or romantic/sexual), you have to specifically request that tag. So if you want a story about Edmund Pevensie/Bacchus, you need to request Group: Edmund Pevensie/Bacchus. If you simply request both characters, there is no guarantee that you will be matched with someone who wants to write those characters together.

This is also how you should request crossovers with specific characters. The crossover characters won't have individual character tags, but will be in a group with a Narnian character (e.g., Group: Aslan & Anakin Skywalker (Star Wars) & Ahsoka Tano (Star Wars)).

You can still request crossovers in your optional details, with something like, "I'd really like a Narnia/Star Wars crossover" but this does not guarantee a specific match.


3) This changes the matching process, in that you won't be matched on a separate relationship request.

But remember, because this is a small single fandom exchange, what tends to happen is that people are matched on one offer/request, but writers will also mix and match from the other requests.

For example, your recipient might have made request 1 with Aravis, and you offered Aravis in offer 1, so that's what you matched on. But if they've also requested Zardeenah in another request, and you offered her in another offer, then you're certainly free (and encouraged) to use all the other characters/freeforms you have in common in your story (unless your recip says something like "DNW a story with these two characters, or in this situation").


4) About crossovers: as in previous years, you can request crossovers, but they can't be your only request. There's no way to guarantee that your writer will be familiar with the other fandom. Same with requests set in specific ficverses - you can, for example request a story set in rthstewart's ficverse, but you must be considerate and have other requests, because not everyone knows that 'verse. Before you request a story set in someone else's ficverse, just make sure the original author is okay with that. That's on you -- the mods are not going to check with authors about this.


5) There won't be a separate collection for treats this year, but after a couple of weeks, all the requests will be open for treating. You can upload these treats to the main collection.
