Happy Reveal Day everyone!

The last pinch-hits are in, so we're good to go today. I will be opening the collection at 3 pm ET, so if you have any last minute commas you want to fix (me, I mean me), you've still got time.

Stay tuned and happy reading!

Hello everyone! Thank you for getting all your stories in! I'm checking to see if we need pinch-hitters, and will post here and email the pinch-hitters if any are needed.

Hello all!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am extending the deadline by a week. Instead of your fics being due today, you have until next Saturday, September 10th, to get them in.

There's a couple of reasons for this:

1) Multiple people have asked for an extension. There's a bad case of real life circumstances going around, and I totally understand.

2) I have always wanted this to be a fun and low-stress exchange. If extending the deadline helps people out with that, it's the way I want to go.

Thank you to everyone who has already submitted their stories! I appreciate that you were all able to make the deadline. The good news is that now you have some extra time to edit and polish things up, if you want! :)

With the fic deadline extension, this pushes back the fic reveals until September 18th, and the author reveals until September 25th. This has been noted on AO3, and in the sticky post in this comm.

Regarding deadlines and reveals:

Technically, the deadline is next Saturday, September 10th by midnight. My timezone is Eastern, but midnight whatever timezone you're in.

Realistically, I'll most likely be asleep at midnight ET, so the deadline is whenever I log on Sunday the 11th, so usually around 9 am.

The fic you submit should be complete and ready to go by that time. You will have a week between the deadline and the reveals, so you can polish and edit your fic, but if it's not complete when you submit it, I will be looking for a pinch-hitter.

If you are to new to this exchange, that week between deadline and reveals is so that I can find pinch-hitters if needed, and give them time to write a story before reveals.

Reveals will be sometime during the day on Sunday the 18th -- I give a one hour warning before I open the collection. If there are any delays due to pinch-hitters needing more time, I will let you know then.

Thank you all for your understanding, if you have any questions, feel free to leave them here, or email at narniaficexchange@gmail.com

Hello all!

I've received a couple of requests for extensions, because evidently August 27th is deadline heavy, haha!

So I'm pushing back the due date for the stories. You now need to have your story submitted by September 3rd. This pushes back the other dates as well. Fics will now be revealed on September 11th, and authors on September 18th.

Please remember when you submit your story by the September 3rd deadline that it should be complete. It's fine if you do some editing during the week before reveals, but the fic you submit should pass the bus test: if you got hit by a bus, your recipient would have a gift. Grim, but that's life in the fic exchange world.

Enjoy your extra week of writing! :D

Please, please, please sign up for pinch-hitting here! Last year there were a few fics that needed pinch-hitting, and it'll probably happen this round too.

Same rules apply as when signing up for beta duty. You don't have to be a participant in the exchange to be a pinch-hitter, just someone who can turn around a thousand word fic in a short time frame.

Comments to this post will be screened. Your name will be added to the pinch-hitter list, and if we need a pinch hitter, you'll receive an email/message with the prompt details.

Copy and paste this into the comments and fill it out:

Name:
Email:

If there are any dealbreakers (for example, writing incest), please note, and you won't be matched with that.

Please note: in the past we have contacted pinch-hitters via email. We will still do that, but we'll also be posting pinch-hits to the comm, and in other venues, so we can find pinch-hitters as fast as possible.

Thank you! :)

This is the post where you volunteer to beta. You don't have to be a member of this comm, or participating in the exchange to be a beta. If you are willing to help the writers, please sign up!

Copy and paste this in the comments and fill in the details:

Name:
Email/Contact: (we need an email or some form of contact so folks who need a beta can get in touch with you)

The authors will contact you if they need a beta.

ARE YOU READY TO WRITE NARNIA FIC?! Good, because now is the time! :D

This is a pretty long post, but it answers questions and explains things, so please read the whole thing.

Here is a handy tutorial on how to sign up for an fic exchange on AO3:

Handy tutorial!

Tagset!

THINGS OF NOTE:

1) Reminder: same as the last couple of years, you cannot request "any." We had too many problems with matching, and [personal profile] aurilly made the tags more specific for this reason. However, you can still offer "any," but only offer it if you're really open to writing anyone/thing.

2) Reminder: you can only request relationships as characters. You will see in the tag set characters groupings which are either platonic (e.g., "Group: Character A & Character B") or romantic/sexual (e.g., "Group: Character A/Character B").

This means if you want a specific combo of characters (either platonic or romantic/sexual), you have to specifically request that tag. So if you want a story about Edmund Pevensie/Bacchus, you need to request Group: Edmund Pevensie/Bacchus. If you simply request both characters, there is no guarantee that you will be matched with someone who wants to write those characters together.

This is also how you should request crossovers with specific characters. The crossover characters won't have individual character tags, but will be in a group with a Narnian character (e.g., Group: Aslan & Anakin Skywalker (Star Wars) & Ahsoka Tano (Star Wars)).

You can still request crossovers in your optional details, with something like, "I'd really like a Narnia/Star Wars crossover" but this does not guarantee a specific match.

3) For matching, you are matched primarily on characters (so individual characters and groups). If there is no match there, you can be matched on the additional tags.

But remember, because this is a small single fandom exchange, what tends to happen is that people are matched on one offer/request, but writers will also mix and match from the other requests.

For example, your recipient might have made request 1 with Aravis, and you offered Aravis in offer 1, so that's what you matched on. But if they've also requested Zardeenah in another request, and you offered her in another offer, then you're certainly free (and encouraged) to use all the other characters/freeforms you have in common in your story (unless your recip says something like "DNW a story with these two characters, or in this situation").

4) About crossovers: as in previous years, you can request crossovers, but they can't be your only request. There's no way to guarantee that your writer will be familiar with the other fandom. Same with requests set in specific ficverses - you can, for example, request a story set in rthstewart's ficverse, but you must be considerate and have other requests, because not everyone knows that 'verse. Before you request a story set in someone else's ficverse, just make sure the original author is okay with that. That's on you -- the mods are not going to check with authors about this. As well, you should not set stories in someone else's ficverse, unless the person has specifically requested that ficverse.

5) There won't be a separate collection for treats this year, but after the assignments are sent out, all the requests will be open for treating. You can upload these treats to the main collection. Just tag them as treats.

Hello all!

I just wanted to follow up on these tags:

"French fries" -- can you explain what this means?

"primary sources" -- same, we need this explained so we can understand the intent of this tag.

"Vampire Lucy Pevensie" -- since we already have Vampire AU, I think this is covered.

"Lesbian Susan Pevensie" -- we will replace this with LGBTQ Pevensies.

Please comment and let me know. Thank you!

ETA: I think we're all set with tags. Nominations for the tag set are now closed and I will be opening signups soon. If you see any problems with the existing tags, let me know and I'll make the fix. Thank you!

Hello NFE folks! It's time to get this party started, and you know how we start? With tag nominations!

The tag set is open, HERE, now through July 6th!

Important Notes:
* Use "Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis" as the fandom for all character/pairing nominations. Only nominations for the book fandom will be accepted.
* Individual Characters: Please nominate with the character's full name (as far as it is known).
* Character AND platonic or sexual/relationship nominations should go in the "Character" field of the tagset.
* Romantic/Sexual Ships: please put the word "Group:" in front of the pairing. Nominate using characters' full names, separated by a "/". Only nominate, request and offer using the / version if you want a sexual or romantic take. If you only intend to request ships, you do NOT need to nominate the individual characters as well. Signups for ship requests should only have the pairing, NOT the individual characters as well.
* Platonic Pairings or Groups: Please put the word "Group:" in front of the pairing. Please nominate using characters' full names, separated by a "&". Same note as above about not needing to nominate individual characters if you only intend to request gen groups.

If you want a crossover, you should nominate your crossover characters as a group, with the Narnia character you want to see them interact with. Make sure you include the fandom for the crossover character. For example: Group: Susan Pevensie/Dream of the Endless (The Sandman)

This year, I've pre-approved several characters since there was some confusion about it last year. I've also pre-approved a few extra character options to optimize matching for people who want worldbuilding and/or who don't care much which specific characters appear in their fic. Ex. "Original Female Character", "Any Female Character", "Character Who Appeared Entirely Off-Screen."

Freeform Tags

I've also added several standard freeforms, such as time periods. While the periods are defined by what happened in the country of Narnia, requests for these tags can be for anywhere in that world at that time.

Narnian World Time Periods (taken from the Narnia wiki)
— Age of Conquest: Birth of Narnia through right before White Witch seizes power
— Age of Winter: White Witch’s reign
— Golden Age: Pevensies’ reign
— Dark Age: Narnia in anarchy
— Telmarine Age: Telmarine conquest through right before Caspian X’s coronation
— Age of Exploration: Caspian X’s reign
— Later Ages: Rilian’s reign onwards
— Post-Canon - Earth: set on Earth after TLB

As usual, not all freeforms will get approved, since we want to keep the tagset small, focused on Narnia-specific concepts, and understandable to everyone without explanation.

Remember, tags are there to help with your requests and offers. If a character or group hasn't been nominated, you can't be matched on it.
