"I would not take this as a sign that the country is weak and ripe for the plucking. I would not wage war against this land for all the gold in Tashbaan.

This is another amazing story in an amazing exchange. Susan is so wonderful (and a Knight!) The Calormenes are not stupid, there are spies and assassins and oh brilliantly, brilliantly done turning the holly into agents of Jadis and that it is Tumnus who writes of it. So often, holly is perceived as good (Harry's wand) or as drunken (Prince Caspian). This is wonderful, wonderful worldbuilding.

The repetition of the different writing and the titles conveys a wonderful story all on its own. So, was it the Governor of the Lone Islands or someone else who was involved in the Turkish Delight? So creepy!! I assume from reading that it was delivered to Edmund either as an accident or deliberately and poor, poor Edmund is not coping very well with it.

This is a terrific, compact, powerful, powerfully characterized story and so appreciate you for writing it.
