I think the sea a far better motif for Susan than for Lucy, because the sea is gray. It gives life, and it also destroys I think so too :D. Also, there is a level of searching and ambiguity to the sea that somehow doesn't quite fit Lucy. I think Lucy is very sure of who she is and what she wants/believes in life.
