Sample prompts and some tips! I know some people have questions about how to write their requests/prompts, so here are a couple of samples from last year's NFE. First, a fairly simple one, with only one request: What I definitely won't write: Smut, slash, incest What I want: Edmund Pevensie Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: Jadis in England - I'm thinking more in terms of memories/hallucinations/waking nightmares/etc., but feel free to interpret this however you wish. :) What I definitely don't want in my fic: Romance, smut, slash, incest Second, a more detailed one, with different options: What I definitely won't write: deathfic, dubcon or noncon, extreme violence or gore What I want: I'd love some previously untold Narnian adventures - stories from the Golden Age, or stories from Caspian's reign, Caspian and Rilian bonding, sea voyages or other journeys out of Narnia. Maybe an unexplored island we didn't read about in VDT? What's up north besides the giants? Ship-wise, I'd always love some Caspian/Peter, if you're so inclined. Maybe an AU where the Pevensies stay in Narnia after PC? Or an AU where Caspian finds his way into England for a while. I love Susan best of all, so anything featuring her in a starring and completely awesome role would make me happy. I'd love to see her in Calormene, before everything went so wrong with Rabadash. Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: 1) I will rise After a thousand years lipping flowers And set my teeth in the silver of the moon -- e.e. cummings 2) For whatever we lose(like a you or a me) it's always ourselves we find in the sea -- ee cummings What I definitely don't want in my fic: Crossovers, Susan-bashing of any kind, misogyny, rape, deathfic. HANDY TIPS AND THINGS YOU SHOULD NOT DO IN YOUR REQUEST: 1) Do not request a crossover, and make it your only request. There is no guarantee that your writer will know the other fandom. If you request a crossover and have no other requests, I will contact you and ask you for a second request. When this happens, it is not polite to say, "If you haven't read watched this show/movie/read this book, you really should, but if you can't be bothered, just do this" as your second request. Not cool. 2) Do not request fic written in someone else's 'verse, and make it your only request. As with above, there is no guarantee that your writer will have read this other fanfic. If you request fic set in someone else's 'verse and have no other requests, I will contact you and ask you for a second request. When this happens, it is not polite to say, "If you haven't read So-and-so's fic, you really should, but if you can't be bothered, just do this" as your second request. Not cool. 3) Do not say, about the things you do not want in your fic, (for example) "NO SLASH BECAUSE EW SLASH IS SO GROSS!" The person you are matched with might like slash, and this will not get you off to the right start with them. 4) Rule of thumb: if the list of Do Not Wants is way more detailed than what you actually want in your fic, you will want to give more options of what you do want. ETA: Evidently Livejournal has been marking a lot of comments as spam. If this happens to you when you sign up, don't worry. I still get notified, and I am also checking for any spam comments that might slip by. |

Here are some ideas I would be interested in. Of course, feel free to write something entirely different.
-fic about the Telmarines who leave Narnia at the end of PC - what is their first encounter with people from our world like? perhaps they end up meeting one of the Pevensies in their world?
-political manoeuvring and hard reluctant decisions
-tensions among Narnians following loss of a common enemy (Telmarines, Jadis), or during the conflict (because people are not necessarily very good at putting aside other issues even though technically on one side, and I don't see why Animals should be any different). Maybe some of them don't like that some inexperienced children have been set up as rulers of their country.
-one of the Pevensies questioning their ruling decisions afterwards (in England?) Perhaps the war against the giants which Peter is fighting in HHB was an imperialist one started by Narnia? The morality of this might be questionable during the decolonization debate.
-what do the Pevensies think about contemporary affairs because of their Narnian experiences?
-the experiences of someone in the Narnian world who doesn't worship Aslan, but is nevertheless a good being.
-Aslan as a rather dubious character
-I really enjoy reading Ana Mardoll's deconstructions ([link] (http://www.anamardoll.com/search/label/deconstruction%20%28narnia%29), so fic related to a point raised in one of them would certainly be welcome.
-perception of the Pevensies after their reigns (Telmarine/Tirian). I am very fond of fictional historical criticism.
-crossovers with Game of Thrones, The Tudors, or The Borgias (Pevensies and Borgias both trying to outmanoeuvre each other?) would be very welcome, or historical people showing up.
I am perfectly fine with incest.
prompt stuff:
poems: Bertolt Brecht's "A Worker Reads History" , Yahya Kemal's "Akıncılar", Federico García Lorca's "Gacela of the Dark Death"
"It’s an unnatural crime to allow something totally different from yourself to impose a pattern of living on you." - Swastika Night by Katharine Burdekin
"Famous men have the whole earth as their memorial; it is not only the inscriptions on their graves in their own country that mark them out; no, in foreign lands also, not in any visible form but in people’s hearts, their memory abides and grows."- Pericles
"I will weep with you for the children of kings if you will weep with me for the children of the people."- Les Misérables
"One should forgive one’s enemies, but not before they are hanged." - Heinrich Heine
"There was a hell that I built long ago and it was a place where everything remained the same forever because I could imagine nothing more horrific, and now I am there." - N.K. Jemisin
"It’s the well-behaved children that make the most formidable revolutionaries. They don’t say a word, they don’t hide under the table, they eat only one piece of chocolate at a time. But later on they make society pay dearly." - Jean-Paul Sartre
"Never explain, never retract, never apologize. Just get the thing done and let them howl." - Nellie McLung
"You can safely assume that you’ve created God in your own image what it turns out that God hates all the same people you do." - Anne Lamott
definitely don't want: pregnancy or small children, anti-choice/misogynistic/racist/homophobic etc. narrative (I don't mind if characters express such opinions, as long narrative portrays this as not-OK), black-and-white morality, incompetent characters, human/non-humanoid relationships
Of course, if there's a fic you're longing to write, please do so! These are just suggestions.
