Madness Round!
Aug. 20th, 2013 01:47 pmWelcome to our First Madness Round! Since there was interest in doing this, we'll see how it goes, and if it's successful, we'll make it a regular part of the NFE.
Some basics:
1) It's not mandatory. Participation in the 2013 NFE does not require participation in the Madness Round. So no worries if you can't join in.
2) It's open to anyone. You don't have to be a 2013 NFE participant to join in the Madness Round. So please feel free to link to anyone you think might be interested!
3) All the prompts will be in this post. If you don't see your prompt here, email me and I will add it. In addition, if you signed up to pinch-hit, and would like to add your prompt to the list, email it to me and I will add it.
4) You can pick any and all prompts you want. Multiple people can pick the same prompt. There is no need to claim your prompts in the comments. This post will stay open through the round of story posting, so you can pick a prompt at any time. If you have already written a second story, or have another idea or two based on the prompt you received, that's fine too! You don't need to pick a new prompt.
5) The prompts are currently anonymous - this is because, as of right now, no one knows who they are writing for. However, as the submitted stories are posted, the prompter will be revealed. By the end of the posting round, all the prompts should have a name attached.
6) The posting round will end after all the submitted stories have been posted. When this is done, I will open the community so you can post the stories you have written for the Madness Round. There will be no order, and you can post whenever you like. You just have to join the community to post. HOWEVER if you don't have a Livejournal account, you can just email me the story and I will post it for you.
7) There is no mandatory length for Madness stories. It can be as long or as short as you'd like. There is no beta requirement. The only time frame is this: you will have a week to post your stories. After that week, the Madness Round will be over.
8) You are free to post your Madness stories anywhere you'd like, just as with the regular NFE stories. The only restriction is that they must be posted to the community first. If you don't finish your story in time to post it during the Madness Round, then you are free to post it wherever you'd like; I just ask that you keep the prompt and prompter's name attached.
Okay, that's all I can think of! But this is the first time we've done this, so I'm sure I've missed something. ;) If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments, or email me at narniaficexchange@gmail.com
Ready?
Prompts! (Prompts from a pinch-hitter are starred, like so: *)
~~
*1) For Tonzura123:
What I want: England. One of the Friends of Narnia meets the Prime Minister by accident. Can include life-saving/general showing off in front of said Prime Minister. World War II puns a plus.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: It was a simple gravy mishap.
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Slash/smut/incest/excessive adult lingo/gravy spoons
~~
2) For crescent_gaia:
What I want: I know movie verse more than book verse, so I would like something along those lines. However, if you are only coming up with something that is from book 'verse, please feel free to write it.
Susan is my favorite character, followed closely by Lucy, so something centering on one of them or both would be great. I do like shipping Susan with Caspian and Lucy with Aslan if you were thinking of writing something along those lines.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
"I don't believe in fairy tales / But I believe in you and me" -- Wonderland, Natalia Kills
Image: http://www.unicornlady.net/legends/images/sunsigns.gif
Both within the family and without, our sisters hold up our mirrors: our images of who we are and of who we can dare to be. -- Elizabeth Fishel
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Please no incest, rape, gore, or character death. Thank you!
~~
3) For aurilly:
What I want: I like stories that include: friendship, adventures, banter, daring stratagems, painting/sculpture/art, in vino veritas, fish out of water, the Wood Between the Worlds, and/or at least one chuckle. I prefer casual romance that develops out of friendship over angsty epic one true love; I like gen friendship stories just as much as romance. I love Edmund and Tirian the most, but everyone else, too.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
1. Last Battle AU-ish. Instead of it being only a vision, Tirian is actually transported to the Friends of Narnia dinner and spends time in England. I ship Tirian/Jill, Eustace/Jill or Tirian/Susan, but ensemble gen would be just as wonderful.
2. Edmund & Tumnus as close friends through the years, in a way that isn’t dependent on Lucy and Tumnus's dynamic.
3. Lucy & Edmund on an adventure, without their siblings. Perhaps their first ambassadorial visit, or stranded together somewhere, or solving a mystery, or using the rings, or a Silver Chair-like camping quest, or sharing an apartment, etc… Anything where they’re awesome best friends with complementary strengths. (I also love exquisitely ambiguous, the-only-reason-I’m-sure-it's-romantic-is-because-there's-a-pairing-tag-in-the-header, co-dependent yet effective Edmund/Susan, so feel free to do this duo instead.)
4. Crossovers (any het crossover pairing is welcome): a) Lost (but please not with a Jack or Ben focus); or b) Game of Thrones (I have not read the books, so please don't spoil me; my favorite protagonists/storylines are Tyrion/Sansa-Bronn-Varys-Tyrells & Co in Kings Landing, Jamie/Brienne, Sam, Bran & Co)
What I definitely don't want in my fic: smut, bleak endings, romantic pairings other than the ones specifically marked with a / in the prompts, the afterlife, crossovers that reference an actor connection. For romance, please age everyone up to 17+.
~~
4) for edenfalling/Elizabeth Culmer:
What I want: To sum up, I want world-building and/or exciting adventures. If adventures, I would prefer the main characters NOT be Peter and Edmund, since they get more than their fair share of such plots. If world-building, there are nearly three thousand years of Narnian world history to play with, plus lots of places we see only in passing or never see at all. Go wild! (Heck, invent whole new worlds if you wish; the Wood canonically allows that option.)
For example:
1. Archenland during the Long Winter, or during the first years after Narnia's sudden reemergence from its magical bonds. They are sister countries, after all, and Archenland's royal family has a blood-right claim to the Narnia throne. Narnia's loss and recovery must have been wrenching changes. I'd love to see the initial reaction to the Winter, people trying to break down the magical barriers (whose existence I must assume to explain the ridiculous isolation evident in LWW), Lune and his wife meeting the Pevensies, etc.
2. What happened in Narnia in the years around the death of the Tree of Protection? Did Jadis kill it (by magic or by proxy), or did it just die of old age? How soon thereafter did she enter Narnia? Via subterfuge or via conquest? Who set up the resistance and how? (Also, who set up the black market the Beavers are clearly using, and how does it work?)
3. What led to the Telmarine invasion and conquest of Narnia? Aslan says it was a famine, but famine alone is unlikely to lead to the entirety of a settled people migrating to a new country; some must have stayed in Telmar. Was the migration a regional thing, or did families split down the middle? Was Caspian I royalty before the invasion or did he only rise to prominence in Narnia? How quickly (and why) did the Narnian Telmarines lose contact with their home country? That entire episode is crying out for exploration.
4. Susan and Lucy have an unexpected adventure, including two or more of the following elements: Ambushes! Captures! Daring escapes and rescues! Disguises, deceit, and diplomacy! Cunning plans! Expressions of love, faith, and trust in each other! Doomed last stands! Happy endings! Basically, you know those epic brotherly devotion/adventure fics? Write me one of those, but with sisters instead. Preferably in the Narnian world, but if you can find a way to play out something from that genre in England, that would be awesome too.
Please note that I am not trying to restrict you to those ideas! They are just some examples of what I mean by world-building and exciting adventures.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: "....for if you live you may yet have good fortune but all the dead are dead alike."
Swords. Knife-fights. Epic speeches before battles. Conversations about love wherein the word itself is never spoken but the sentiment is nonetheless clearly expressed and understood by both parties. Politics. Economics. Arguments. Magic.
"Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Pevensie incest, film canon, any Pevensie/Caspian shipping, the Pevensies or Caspian having sex (with anyone!) during PC, Jadis as a sexual abuser or temptress, character bashing (of anyone!), adult-minds-in-child-bodies upon the Pevensies' return to England -- my personal headcanon is that while they remembered being adults, they remembered from a child's perspective, and since this is a gift request, I guess I will be picky and specify that. :-)
~~
5) for HollywdLiz:
What I want: Golden Age fic, especially starring Susan and/or Edmund; England fic with Susan and/or Edmund and/or Eustace
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: Redemption, change, forgiveness; "Despair is a greater sin than any of the sins that lead to it" (Lewis).
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Incest, slash or interspecies romance; Susan-bashing or Susan getting screwed over (if you can't tell, I love Susan)
~~
6) for Jane/jn208505:
What I want: I love the Golden Age. Something set while the Pevensies are ruling! I enjoy a bit of drama and the relationship between the siblings! Would love something from Edmund's POV, either 1st or 3rd person is fine!
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:

What I definitely don't want in my fic: incest

7) for StarbrowSings
What I want: Any permutation or combination of the following:
- Possible ships: Lucy/Caspian, Aravis/Cor, Jill/anybody, Lucy/Male OC, Lucy/Tumnus, Lucy/Edmund (if you’re up for Pevencest), open to others too. Lucian is the ship o’ my heart so anything you do with them would be awesome, but I’d love to see Caspian in Spare Oom or the two of them going on a quest together.
- Steampunk AU, either in England or Narnia. (Apocalyptic Winter, mechanical lion, airship battles, that kind of thing)
-Swanwhite II (let’s assume she existed, year 1502 on Lewis’s timeline): who was she and what did she do? Was Narnia at peace or war then? Were there any signs of future Telmarine invasion? Did she rename herself after the first Swanwhite for symbolic power?
- Mrs. Le Fay from Magician’s Nephew is Morgan le Fay (or an incarnation/descendent) and fakes her death to get rid of Andrew; she has bigger game to catch - Digory and/or Polly. Perhaps even Jadis is one of her former students. Feel free to borrow from Lewis’s Le Fay Fragment for this one (the plot is online, the manuscript itself is in Walter Hooper’s Past Watchful Dragons)
- Gary Stu falls into Narnia, what happens next? Put all your brilliant satire skills to work! (Bonus points if there’s somehow real romance!)
- For the brave of heart: SMUT! I would so totally thrilled with anything your heart may desire to write. Het, slash, multi, OC, Pevencest, Human-on-Narnian, etc. It can be as oblique or explicit as you like, but I’m all about the senses and emotions.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
- “It would be far truer to say that fairy land arouses a longing for he knows not what. It stirs and troubles him with the dim sense of something beyond his reach and, far from dulling or emptying the actual world, gives it a new dimension of depth. He does not despise real woods because he has read of enchanted woods: the reading makes all real woods a little enchanted.” -C.S. Lewis, On Three Ways of Writing for Children
- “Call us what you will, we are made such by love.” -John Donne
- “Inexorably Joy proclaimed, ‘You want — I myself am your want of — something other, outside, not you nor any state of you.’ I did not yet ask, Who is the desired? Only What is it? But this brought me already into the region of awe, for I thus understood that in deepest solitude there is a road right out of the self, a commerce with something which, by refusing to identify itself with any object of the senses, or anything whereof we have biological or social need, or anything imagined, or any state of our own minds, proclaims itself sheerly objective. Far more objective than bodies, for it is not, like them, clothed in our senses; the naked Other, imageless (though our imagination salutes it with a hundred images), unknown, undefined, desired.” C.S. Lewis, Surprised by Joy
What I definitely don't want in my fic:
- Suspian
- Angst-for-the-sake-of-angst. (i.e. Edmund is doing just fine these days!)
- Just the boys
- Only movie characterizations
- Edmund the High King ;)
~~
8) for deepdarkwaters:
What I want: I'm always curious about the books and literature in fantasy worlds. I'd be interested to see your take on some kind of Narnian writing - a few pages from a history, or a cook book, or a racy romantic novel, or somebody's memoir... anything! If that doesn't appeal, I'm really into worldbuilding so it would be great to see something about parts of Narnia we don't get to see much of, or maybe something about the behind-the-scenes stuff (servants in one of the royal palaces? Random sailors or soldiers?) instead of focusing on the books' main characters. Just throwing ideas around now so I'll shut up, but basically I'd love to read anything about Narnia as a country and society, good or bad. I'm less interested in shippy stuff but totally happy for that to be a part of it if you like.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: Maybe something from Mr Tumnus's bookshelf?
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Incest, underage, or rape.
~~
9) for Moriwen:
What I want: Peter/Lucy siblingfic, either after their return from Narnia or post-Last Battle. (Rthstewart-verse would be extra-awesome, if you're familiar with her works/feel like it. Entirely optional, though.) Plotty or character study is equally fine, as long as it's Valiant!Lucy and Magnificent!Peter.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
I see the grace of God in you
His holy light is shining through
And I am blessed to be with you
O holy child of God! - (not mine, don't know the author)
And now abides faith, hope, and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13)
Miscellaneous prompts (pick and choose as you like; no need to include any or all): scars, checking in all the wardrobes, obedience, war and peace, knucklebones, dancing in the dark
What I definitely don't want in my fic: incest, Aslan-bashing, utter fluff.
~~
10) for Aeriel/ladyairy:
What I want: Pevensies (Susan especially, but I'd be happy with any one or combination thereof), Jill Pole, Caspian and Rilian, Lady of the Green Kirtle, England fic, Golden Age fic, fic set during or in the aftermath of Silver Chair, gen, femmeslash, het, slash (any of the above in whatever combination or singularly)
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: How confusing is the passage of time between Narnia and our world, both for those that cross over, and those that they encounter?
What I definitely don't want in my fic: I'm fairly easygoing when it comes to pairings, but for some reason Peter/Lucy hits my squick button. No rape, please, and no Susan bashing.
~~
11) for Snacky:
What I want: Any of these, take your pick or mix and match:
- stories about Caspian during his reign - fighting the giants, rebuilding Cair Paravel, settling in Narnia with Ramandu's Daughter, anything!
- stories about Susan during the Golden Age - what lead her to Calormene in HHB? She never rode to wars, so what was her role during them? Her role in the politics of Narnia maybe? A story where everything has gone wrong, and it must be fixed, and she is the one to do it.
- ocean travel stories - they don't have to be on the Dawn Treader! Maybe a story about the merpeople!
- Travel stories of all kinds - I love seeing characters (the Pevensies during their reign) exploring outside of Narnia, or maybe finding their way between worlds?
- For shipping, I love Caspian/Peter, and I like Peter/Susan, but if that's not your thing, no worries.
- I also love post-Narnia stories about Susan - what direction did her life take her after the events of the The Last Battle? But nothing tragic, I don't want her wishing she'd died.
- I like AUs of all kinds! And I like certain crossovers - LOTR or Game of Thrones; or if you're writing an England story, maybe a crossover with the books "The Montmaray Journals" or "Code Name Verity", if you're familiar with those fandoms. But please no crossovers with Doctor Who or Sherlock or Supernatural.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: Banter, laughter, fun, horses, found family, and deep connections.
Susan and Lucy were queens, and they ruled well and proudly
They honored their land and their lord, rang the bells long and loudly
-- Wicked Girls, Seanan McGuire
As someone long prepared for the occasion;
In full command of every plan you wrecked –
Do not choose a coward’s explanation
that hides behind the cause and the effect.
--Alexandra Leaving, Leonard Cohen
And I am waiting
For life to begin
And I am waiting
To set sail for happiness.
-- Lawrence Ferlinghetti
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Character hate or bashing, misogyny, rape, Edmund/Peter brotherfic.
~~
12) for turkeyish:
What I want: Edmund Pevensie
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: "the Gentlemen Bastards crew, all masters of disguise, deception, and fine cuisine"
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Romance, smut, slash, incest
~~
13) for wingedflight21:
What I want: Just going to throw out some ideas (but I'm pretty easy-going so pretty much anything will make me happy):
- Just what does Coriakin get up to on his island when he isn't entertaining travelling visitors? Is he a magician because stars have magic or are the two unrelated? Does he know Ramandu and his daughter (and do they ever get together for tea)?
- Susan and Eustace are both very concerned with logic and common sense - does this mean they got along fairly well even before their Narnian adventures? Or were they always at odds? Would this change after their respective adventures?
- How often did the Friends of Narnia have dinner parties? Was it always just those we saw in LB attending? Did Susan ever come? Did they ever invite anyone else?
- I love AUs, especially dark ones. What if the the Dawn Treader crew got shipwrecked? Could Tirian have had ulterior motives in LB? How would the Pevensie parents have reacted if their kids returned as adults -- or if they didn't return at all?
- I also adore crossovers so, while I know this one's a long stretch, it would be super cool to see a crossover with either the Swallows and Amazons series or the Thursday Next series (specifically Friday and Edmund's interactions).
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Slash, smut, incest
~~
14) for animus_wyrmis:
What I want: I never know what to say for these things so here are some things I enjoy!
-I much prefer bookverse to movieverse (but I really enjoyed Ramandu's Daughter getting some characterization as well)
-Ladies interest me much more than male characters
-I am always a fan of femslash (such as for example Lucy/Sea Girl or Lucy/Ramandu's Daughter)
-I like the idea of Susan as a spymistress more than I like Edmund the spymaster.
-I love stories about journeys and voyages and queens and the start of the Golden Age.
I love stories where Susan moves on after LB, and has friends and a life and pulls together a new family for herself, and integrates the best parts of her Narnian life without sacrificing her English self.
I love stories about Polly after Magician's Nephew--her magical adventures, her political shenanigans, her travels, her absurd letters home to Digory.
If you are feeling crossover-ish, I enjoy Doctor Who and Mary Poppins and Discworld and Supernatural.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
1) Either you had no purpose
Or the purpose is beyond the end you figured
And is altered in fulfilment. There are other places
Which also are the world's end, some at the sea jaws,
Or over a dark lake, in a desert or a city—
But this is the nearest, in place and time,
Now and in England.
-T.S. Eliot, Little Gidding, Four Quartets
2) Nearby is the country they call life.
You will know if by its seriousness.
Give me your hand.
Rilke, Gott spricht zu jedem nur, eh er ihn macht
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Smut, incest
~~
15) for vialethe:
What I want: Susan and Edmund are my favorites, so I'd love a fic centered on them! Something about their adventures in Tashbaan or their escape from the city, maybe. Or another Golden Age adventure of some kind. England fic is good too though, I'm not terribly picky. I love to see a lot of banter between them, or something that focuses on their similarities. (If you're familiar with rthstewart's TSG-verse, a fic with Susan, Edmund and Tebbitt would make my year, especially one where Ed is just casually protective enough to scare the pants off Tebbitt and Susan is annoyed by their bickering.)
If Ed and Sue aren't your favorites, I also love Cor/Aravis, again for the bantering possibilities! They're a lot of fun and I'd love anything that extends their story further.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
I walked into your dream/and now I've forgotten how to dream my own dream/you are the clever one, aren't you? -Mother, Tori Amos
so much hate for the ones we love/tell me we both matter, don't we? -Running Up That Hill, Kate Bush
We are twists and turns/in the language of god/and how his heart must yearn/every time I love -Language of God, Charlotte Martin
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Go away, Train Crash, you are A Bad Thing. Also no character bashing or pregnancy/kidfic.
~~
16) for snitchnipped:
What I want: Peter and Susan character study. Either England between LWW and PC and/or Golden Age when they’re already adults. Can be deep dialogue, humorous, tragic, or action and adventure... just as long as we see mature minds at work!
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: I’m just going to throw a bunch of stuff out there, take whatever strikes your fancy!
Difference/similarities in personalities. Reflections. Partnerships. Friendships. Weapons of choice. Dogs and cats. Reds, oranges and yellows. Thunder and lightning.
“One should not lose one's temper unless one is certain of getting more and more angry to the end.” — William Butler Yeats
“Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.” — Carl Jung
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Incest. Anything terribly AU. Crossover. Fluff for fluff’s sake. Anything else goes!
~~
17) for LauraAndrews:
What I want: I'd love anything with Eustace and Jill (either romantic or non-romantic). Eustace and his mother after VDT or SC, Eustace and his father after VDT or SC. Another lovely thing would be a short AU (or long if you're up to it!) set in Narnia where the last battle doesn't end the world. Also, in my own head-canon Susan takes up playing the violin in our world. It would be awesome to see something centering around or including that. Have fun and pick whatever jumps out at you :D
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: If it's a Eustace and Jill fic, it would be fun if they learned sign language together.
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Slash, incest, extreme violence, sex
~~
18) for Nasim:
What I want: Anything with any (or all!) of the following: Cor/Aravis of any kind. A story set in Calormene and Politics during the Golden Age. Reconciliation of the religions of Tash and Aslan as having the same origin. Spy!Edmund. Character studies of any of the Pevensies. Rillian and/or Edmund recovering from Jadis/The Lady of the Green Kirtle.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: War, Politics, parallels between WWII and wars in Narnia, culture shock, trauma. "There's a beast in every man, and it stirs when you put a sword in his hand"/“Like most misery, it started with apparent happiness.”/“I'm always finding humans at their best and worst. I see their ugly and their beauty, and I wonder how the same thing can be both. (Death)”/“I have to say that although it broke my heart, I was, and still am, glad I was there.”
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Slash, incest, love triangles, Susan-bashing, post-TLB things, Calormene people portrayed as villians only (yes, some of them are evil, but not ALL), Susan/Caspian.
~~
19) for Avia Tantella Scott:
What I want: Ultimately I would love it if you wrote something that made you really happy, perhaps that one-shot you've been tossing around but haven't committed to yet? I love any sort of worldbuilding... Tell me more about Galma, the Lone Islands, Calormen, Terebinthia, the Long Winter, the Telmarine oppression, Bism, backstories of any minor character... anything!
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: Redemption (not Edmund or Susan); voyages; food; growing up; spices; night; natural disaster; hope

What I definitely don't want in my fic: No slash or incest, please!
~~
20) for steven / aigronding:
What I want: I would enjoy a story about an untold adventure of Eustace and Jill set in a time when they unexpectedly return to Narnia. However, something Golden-age related that has Edmund as the main character, including Peter and Lucy with an Aslan cameo appearance in the beginning and end would suffice; it would be a tragic romance story set in the midst of war.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: Love and war, loss, darkness, sorcery, monsters. "Jill and Eustace were always friends." "I love you so much. You made me so happy. I didn't know I could be so happy." "At first much of their time was spent in seeking out the remnants of the White Witch's army and destroying them..."
What I definitely don't want in my fic:Smut, slash, incest...basically nothing too vulgar. No canon characters being killed, no rape, no Susan-bashing.
~~
21) for Annis (october_26 @ LJ/hydrangea @ DW):
What I want: Lucy-centric fic. Worldbuilding in Narnia.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: I love plotty fic, fleshing out Lucy, politics, worldbuilding, unlikely friendships, slowburn romance, cultural clashes, crossovers. I'm open to any 'ship but Lucy/Tumnus.
Here's a little prompt collage of screen caps from various stuff I've watched and found pretty or interesting: http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/october_26/1183873/27867/27867_original.png
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Lucy/Tumnus, kink.
~~
22) for pencildragon11:
What I want: Susan/Lune! I really want an AU with a longer Golden Age, where they didn't leave Narnia the year after Rabadash and Susan found that love had been waiting for her all along until she was ready. I imagine their friendship growing slowly over the years - she was friends with his wife and then helped raise Corin, and I think Susan and Lune exchanged a lot of letters, first as they both grieved his wife and then just as good friends (the two courts probably kept homing pigeons for each other to simplify all the correspondence!). I've seen some great fic for this pairing but it's so hard to find.
If you're really not up to that, then any sort of awesome sisters or girls on a quest would be great. Susan and Lucy sisterfic! Jill, Polly, and Aravis welcome to join in! Did Lucy's cordial ever need refilling? Did Aravis ever get knighted?
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
- Old friends are like comfortable clothes.
- “I no longer believed in the idea of soul mates, or love at first sight. But I was beginning to believe that a very few times in your life, if you were lucky, you might meet someone who was exactly right for you. Not because he was perfect, or because you were, but because your combined flaws were arranged in a way that allowed two separate beings to hinge together.” ~ Lisa Kleypas
- And the person who was just a friend is... suddenly the only person you can ever imagine yourself with.” ~ Gillian Anderson
- “You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” ~ Dr. Seuss
- I shall call / The laughter that lies sleeping in your voice / To wake, or finish poems when you begin them
- The oldest bards still sing of the love of Susan and Lune, and in the foot-hills of Archenland it is said that young love blooms in the spring and hearts are broken in the fall, but that old love is the sweetest and it comes when the snow lies thick and soft on the roofs of Anvard.
What I definitely don't want in my fic:
- Susan-disparaging or shaming. Susan is a strong, smart, capable woman and she deserves some love!
- Lucy-sidelining. She is a queen in her own right and not perpetually a little girl!
~~
23) for Redsnake05:
What I want: I love character-driven fic and would be quite happy to receive gen fic but pairings are great too. I haven't watched the movies, so bookverse only please.
I would love to read something about Jadis. Perhaps she met Aslan at other times, before the Long Winter? Perhaps there are Charnish legends about the Emperor-over-Sea, that she had always dismissed as old wives tales, but gave long thought to once she came to Narnia? What dealings does she have with the Tisroc? She must have been planning her invasion of Narnia for a long time, what were her plans? Did it all go smoothly?
I also love Aravis and would love to know what happens as she gets older in Archenland. Does she miss Calormene? Does she know about the origins of the Calormene empire and its link to Archenland? If so, what does she think about it? I think she and Cor must have had an interesting relationship as he grew into his princedom; feel free to tell me about it.
Also, anything about Polly Plummer would be amazing, or Queen Helen and King Frank in the first days of Narnia.
Even if you don't like these, do not despair! If you pick a somewhat obscure corner of the Narnia universe to explore, I will be delighted. Feel free to write fic from any of the books, especially The Horse and His Boy, The Magician's Nephew and The Silver Chair.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Incest, PWP, sexism or racism, too much fluff
~~
24) for freudiancascade:
What I want: I’m a sucker for narrative, and for the act of storytelling. How does one transform their experiences into the stuff of legend (and, at the same time, what kind of negotiation with the truth must occur in order to tell a good story?). Narnian mythology or history, perhaps? How about untold adventures, the exchange of letters, or maybe the Pevensies swapping tales to pass the time?
Alternately (or perhaps simultaneously), any adventure involving capable ladies in active roles will make me very, very happy!
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
“A Sort of a Song” - William Carlos Williams

What I definitely don't want in my fic: No smut or incest, please!

25) for heliopausa:
What I want:
- stories of minor or unexplained canon characters: for example, the Hermit of the Southern March, Prunaprismia or Aunt Letty
- women being awesome, in Narnia or Spare Oom (or both)
- Stories from the far corners (or lost history) of the Narnian world - like, what's south of Calormen or north of Harfang? What was happening fifty years after Caspian the Conqueror, or fifty years before?
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
“if Power and Command be the Thing which diʃtinguiʃh a Prince, theʃe Ruffians had all the marks of Royalty about them...” from A General History of the Robberies and Murders of the most notorious Pyrates, 1724, p. 60
“Fiction is Truth's elder sister. Obviously. No one in the world knew what truth was till some one had told a story.” Rudyard Kipling, speech to the Royal Society of Literature, June 1926.
What I definitely don't want in my fic:gratuitous cruelty, assumption that anyone is contemptible for whatever reason (someone might be, but I wouldn't want them assumed to be), dubcon or noncon
~~
26) for ceitfianna:
What I want: I'd love some Golden Age adventures. Tumnus is my favorite character and I've love to see what life was like as the Pevensies were learning how to be monarchs. Character interactions especially in terms of friendships and created families are what I love. How does Tumnus fit into the royal family as its clear he does. Show me some of the bumps along the way. If not Tumnus then just how did they figure out how to be monarchs. If you can write complex politics in Narnia, you'll have me hooked as I find them interesting but can't write them. I love slice of life, snapshots, those moments when everything changed. I don't look for Narnia for ships but crushes and smaller romances are of interest to me, just not incest. Its a world I just want to get to know better as I feel like there was never enough of it.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: Created families are just as important as those we're born with.
What I definitely don't want in my fic: A lot of romance, incest, I love Narnia because its a complex world where I find the character interactions fascinating. It's also the first fantasy world I fell in love with.
~~
27) for ruanchunxian:
What I want: Not too much angst; some humour, snark; happy ending; Pevensies, Narnia; minimal romance
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
(Feel free to pick and choose)
- I’ve been looking for a good crossover with Once Upon a Time and haven’t managed to find any, so would love to see some. Prompts: 1) Peter and/or Edmund, and Prince Charming, on kingship/ruling/being commoner-turned-royal; 2) Lucy and Red Riding Hood, running with wolves; 3) Snow White and Susan, archery; 4) any character from both universes, curses, destiny, waiting for a saviour/being saviour; 5) or just run with the crossover and do whatever you want
- Even if you don’t want to write a crossover, feel free to use any part of those prompts for just Narnia instead
- “Edmund was engaged in long overdue shuttling diplomacy…to assure all that […] Narnia had no intention of turning other heads of state into barnyard animals” – rthstewart, Lost in Translation. I would love to see a fic elaborating the diplomatic issues that would arise after the incident of Rabadash the Ass.
- Golden Age/AU where they don't leave: Pevensies being badass and awesome monarchs
- Pevensies from outsider point of view
- World-building in Narnia and/or the world beyond
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Slash, incest.
~~
28) for deathsblood:
What I want:
Here are some ideas I would be interested in. Of course, feel free to write something entirely different.
-fic about the Telmarines who leave Narnia at the end of PC - what is their first encounter with people from our world like? perhaps they end up meeting one of the Pevensies in their world?
-political manoeuvring and hard reluctant decisions
-tensions among Narnians following loss of a common enemy (Telmarines, Jadis), or during the conflict (because people are not necessarily very good at putting aside other issues even though technically on one side, and I don't see why Animals should be any different). Maybe some of them don't like that some inexperienced children have been set up as rulers of their country.
-one of the Pevensies questioning their ruling decisions afterwards (in England?) Perhaps the war against the giants which Peter is fighting in HHB was an imperialist one started by Narnia? The morality of this might be questionable during the decolonization debate.
-what do the Pevensies think about contemporary affairs because of their Narnian experiences?
-the experiences of someone in the Narnian world who doesn't worship Aslan, but is nevertheless a good being.
-Aslan as a rather dubious character
-I really enjoy reading Ana Mardoll's deconstructions ([link], so fic related to a point raised in one of them would certainly be welcome.
-perception of the Pevensies after their reigns (Telmarine/Tirian). I am very fond of fictional historical criticism.
-crossovers with Game of Thrones, The Tudors, or The Borgias (Pevensies and Borgias both trying to outmanoeuvre each other?) would be very welcome, or historical people showing up.
I am perfectly fine with incest.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
poems: Bertolt Brecht's "A Worker Reads History" , Yahya Kemal's "Akıncılar", Federico García Lorca's "Gacela of the Dark Death"
"It’s an unnatural crime to allow something totally different from yourself to impose a pattern of living on you." - Swastika Night by Katharine Burdekin
"Famous men have the whole earth as their memorial; it is not only the inscriptions on their graves in their own country that mark them out; no, in foreign lands also, not in any visible form but in people’s hearts, their memory abides and grows."- Pericles
"I will weep with you for the children of kings if you will weep with me for the children of the people."- Les Misérables
"One should forgive one’s enemies, but not before they are hanged." - Heinrich Heine
"There was a hell that I built long ago and it was a place where everything remained the same forever because I could imagine nothing more horrific, and now I am there." - N.K. Jemisin
"It’s the well-behaved children that make the most formidable revolutionaries. They don’t say a word, they don’t hide under the table, they eat only one piece of chocolate at a time. But later on they make society pay dearly." - Jean-Paul Sartre
"Never explain, never retract, never apologize. Just get the thing done and let them howl." - Nellie McLung
"You can safely assume that you’ve created God in your own image what it turns out that God hates all the same people you do." - Anne Lamott
What I definitely don't want in my fic: pregnancy or small children, anti-choice/misogynistic/racist/homophobic etc. narrative (I don't mind if characters express such opinions, as long narrative portrays this as not-OK), black-and-white morality, incompetent characters, human/non-humanoid relationships
Of course, if there's a fic you're longing to write, please do so! These are just suggestions.
~~
29) for bedlamsbard:
What I want: In LWW, Tumnus and Lucy have a second meeting while Edmund runs into the White Witch. I'd like to see what happened during their meeting: stories? conversation? music?
I have long had a dream of a noir-ish mystery set during the Long Winter with Maugrim and the Secret Police as the protagonists.
What kind of fairy tales do they have in Narnia? Maybe set during the Long Winter?
If none of these tickle your fancy or if you have a really great idea that you've been dying to write, just please write whatever makes you happy.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: *If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking. -- Buddhist Proverb
*"Everyone is mine to torment." -- Game of Thrones
*Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun. -- The Fellowship of the Ring, J.R.R. Tolkien
*fire exposes our priorities
*"I'd better not arrive in hell and find you're not there."
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Character-bashing, smut, misogyny, canon character death, rape
~~
30) for Miss M. / miss_morland:
What I want: I love missing scenes/takes on canon scenes from alternate perspectives -- the Professor telling the Pevensies about his own adventures in Narnia? Eustace meeting his parents again after the events of Dawn Treader? The last meeting between Rilian and Caspian at the end of Silver Chair from either's POV? That sort of thing, either for the events I suggested or for others, would be lovely. I'm mostly interested in genfic for this fandom, but if you want to write romance I do like Edmund/Caspian and Aravis/Cor.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: See "what I want" section.
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Incest, non-con, preachiness of either the Christian Fundamentalism or the Grimdarksubversive character-bashing variety. I'm okay with dark themes in general, though.
~~
31) for Autumnia:
What I want: Book-verse, preferably. Can be set in our world or in Narnia. AUs are fine.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: Choose from any below.
* Explorations of lesser known characters or places. For example, tell me about Drinian, Rhince or Peridan, or describe what Archenland is like beyond Anvard.
* What if the Pevensies weren't banned from returning to Narnia? How would events be different in VDT if the older Pevensies were there, or if any of the Four were sent to look for Rilian instead of Eustace and Jill?
* What happened to the Telmarines that left Narnia through the Door in the Air? Were they ever discovered by other people from our world?
* Intrigue, mystery or espionage in Narnia or in Spare Oom.
* Adventures in Aslan's Country
* Steampunk!Narnia
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Romance, smut, incest, slash, gender-swap
~~
32) for The RCK:
What I want: character studies, backstory for minor characters, incidents implied in the books but not explicitly explored, Talking Animals being people while definitely not being human, adventures in worlds other than Narnia (have any Narnians crossed into other worlds?). I would prefer gen or bob to romance or porn. I like time travel stories, but I don't see that necessarily working with Narnia. I'm just kind of throwing things out. I'm sure I'll be happy with whatever I get.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: "Broken hearts and dirty windows/Make life difficult to see/That's why last night and this mornin'/Always look the same to me."
What I definitely don't want in my fic: incest, unicorns, vampires, zombies, child harm
~~
33) for TiaBolt:
What I want: political intrigue, spymasters, women in power, Calormen, worldbuilding, masquerade balls, unacknowledged romance, strong friendships, etc.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: "like diamond studded fire", "your eyes where nothing is revealed/ of bitter or sweet,/ are two cold jewels where are mingled/ iron and gold."
What I definitely don't want in my fic: smut, slash
~~
34) for rthstewart:
What I want: Thank you for writing for me! I like lots of things and would be happy with lots of things. What I don’t like is narrow but pretty strongly held.
I love adventure, fairy tales and pagan influences, politics, UST, humour, romance between co-equal partners, worldbuilding, culture clashes, clever dialogue, surprise endings and happy ever afters. I love to laugh. Because I love happy, surprise endings and laughing, I really enjoy stories where nobody dies on the train, or nobody leaves Narnia.
I love cross-overs (Calvin & Hobbes (Calvin & Hobbes in Narnia?!); classic Conan Doyle Holmes and Watson or Sherlock and Joan from the new CBS Elementary; Lord of the Rings/Hobbit; Avengers; Lloyd Alexander’s Prydain; Bujold; Temeraire; Sara Jane Adventures; Harry Potter; Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Warehouse 13; Alice’s Adventures; classic children’s books like Secret Garden, Anne of Green Gables, etc.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
“I think God, in creating man, somewhat overestimated his ability.” Oscar Wilde
“We all know interspecies romance is weird.” Tim Burton
“Did someone just call me the wine dude?” he asked in a lazy drawl. “It’s Bacchus, please. Or Mr. Bacchus. Or Lord Bacchus. Or, sometimes, Oh-My-Gods-Please-Don’t-Kill-Me, Lord Bacchus.” Rick Riordan
“I had weird dreams full of barnyard animals. Most of them wanted to kill me. The rest wanted food.” Rick Riordan
What I definitely don't want in my fic: violence; dysfunctional, co-dependent or abusive relationships; rape/dub con; character death; Susan “earning redemption” after a desolate, desultory life
~~
35) for Elizabeth/thedreamisreal:
What I want:
My favorite characters are the Pevensies, Caspian, Eustace Scrubb, Jill Pole, Professor Kirke, and Aslan. I'd like a fic set either during the Golden Age, the time in between trips to Narnia, or during the time right before the Pevensies died and went to Narnia in the last battle. I'm okay with incest, but it does not have to be included. (Any combination works for me.) A fic from Susan, Jill, Edmund or Eustace third person PoV would be great. I also like Caspian/Peter and Caspian/Susan. I'd love a focus on a family dynamic, whether blood or Narnian family. I'm ok with angst, but only if the ending is at least implied to be happy or bittersweet. Autumn and winter are my favorite seasons to read fics about. I love music and love reading about characters playing a musical instrument. Explicit sex is fine, but I don't want a PWP.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
1) "I can already tell you think I'm the dragon, that would be so like me, but I'm not. I'm not the dragon. I'm not the princess either." - Richard Siken
2) "And if you look at your reflection, is it all you want to be?" - Nine Inch Nails
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Pure smut, character death, excessive violence, misogyny, rape
~~
36) for lady_songsmith:
What I want: (e.g. specific ship or character, England fic, Golden Age fic, AU, set during a ball, someone falls ill, whatever, etc.)
some options:
adult!Pevensies, in Narnia or otherwise
Caspian/book!Drinian
Bacchus/anyone
on campaign
commoner's view of the kings, queens (any era)
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
allegiance, reprieve, mystery, bound, belonging, trust
"Musing upon the king my brother's wreck
And on the king my father's death before him." - T.S. Eliot
What I definitely don't want in my fic:
Character-bashing, The Newer Testament of Lewis style overtones, slapstick comedy
~~
37) for Ali / angel_in_tears:
What I want: Defintiely Susan-centric. I love stories of the golden age in Narnia, or Susan being allowed to return to Narnia. Not the biggest fan of Susan/Caspian but I don't mind them :) I do read Peter/Susan fic and don't mind that either, unless it's something you're massively against!
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever: 'If only time could be repeated", Stormy Weather, Coronations and politics.
What I definitely don't want in my fic: Anything goes! :)
~~
38) for psyche29:
What I want: I find I will read damn near anything, so long as it’s well written. I tend to prefer stories that use the Pevensies as main characters, and don't care too much if it's all of them or one of them or any combination of them. This is my first year here, so I am wide open to most anything, whether it's clean and sweet, dark and emotional, or even dirty porn. Or any combination thereof!! I'm not being helpful, am I? I tend to prefer happy over angsty, but again, well-written trumps everything. Romance is always welcome, though I'd be equally happy with simple sibling fic. Pairings I like include Eustace/Jill and Lucy/Tirian. Peter/anybody is always fun to read, as is Edmund/anybody. Peter and Edmund sibling fic trumps Susan and Lucy sibling fic. But definitely please use a Pevensie - more, if you wish! - in this fic. And Aslan is always welcome.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
1. "And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it." ROALD DAHL. - Perhaps something with Aravis and Cor?
2. Mene, Mene, Tekel Upharsin “You have been weighed in the balance, and found wanting.”
3. "Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." - SPOCK, Star Trek (2009). - Why do I see Edmund saying this?
4. "And all I really want is some patience/A way to calm the angry voice..." - ALANIS MORISSETTE - Peter after LWW? Susan after PC?
5. "In the exercise of authority, we should be governed by justice and unselfish loyalty to the welfare of others."
What I definitely don't want in my fic: I am copy-pasting from my HP Porn in the Sun sign up - which means these are mostly porn-themed no-nos: Rape, dubious consent, 15-and-younger in age; mpreg, straight-up slash, rimming, frottage (not really a squick, but it doesn't do much for me), watersports, scat, necro. Absolutely no blood-play or vampirism. Added to these, I don't really want to read about Tash or Calormen.
~~
39) for priscipixie:
What I want: I think I’d like Golden Age fic, as I’m currently revelling in HHB, the only book where the Pevensies are really adult monarchs. I’m game for any kind of fic inspired by that book, whether character-based, or plot-based.
I love, love, love world-building type fics, whether you choose to explore this with something immersed in Calormen and the Tisroc’s court, or with some sort of flashback comparing the nature of monarchy and empire and foreign relations in England and Narnia. I’m also fascinated by the Aravis/Cor relationship (cross-cultural romances are always frustratingly fantastic!), the brotherly interactions between Cor and Corin, delving into Susan’s state of mind...anything at all, really, that’s in some random way inspired by HHB.
Prompt words/objects/quotes/whatever:
Go ahead and use these to inspire you in any way possible. Even if there’s only a squint-and-you-can-see-it reference to any one of these prompt quotes, I’ll be perfectly happy.
“I used to think that the interesting issue was whether we should have a monarchy or not. But now I think that question is rather like, should we have pandas or not? Our current royal family doesn’t have the difficulties in breeding that pandas do, but pandas and royal persons alike are expensive to conserve and ill-adapted to any modern environment. But aren’t they interesting? Aren’t they nice to look at? Some people find them endearing; some pity them for their precarious situation; everybody stares at them, and however airy the enclosure they inhabit, it’s still a cage...Is monarchy a suitable institution for a grown-up nation? I don’t know.” -- Royal Bodies, by Hilary Mantel
“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” -- George Eliot
“Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.” -- Rainer Maria Rilke
Once the game is over, the King and the pawn go back in the same box. -- Italian proverb
What I definitely don't want in my fic: No incest or slash please.

Let the Madness begin! :D :D :D I always wanted to say that.

Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."

6) for Jane/jn208505:

What I definitely don't want in my fic: incest
~~
As someone long prepared for the occasion;

Let the snake wait under

and the writing
be of words, slow and quick, sharp
to strike, quiet to wait,
sleepless.
-- through metaphor to reconcile

Compose. (No ideas
but in things) Invent!
Saxifrage is my flower that splits
the rocks.
What I definitely don't want in my fic: No smut or incest, please!
~~
* Adventures in Aslan's Country
* Steampunk!Narnia
