Taking A Moment, for [livejournal.com profile] turkeyish.

Written by [livejournal.com profile] sophiap.

In the Great Hall, hearths blazed, musicians played Christmas carols, and dozens of Narnians laughed and feasted.

Out on the west battlement, a solitary torch flickered, a pennant snapped in the wind, and a dwarf and a Son of Adam blew smoke rings.

"Party not to y'r liking?" His Majesty had borrowed a pinch of the sentry's baccy, thereby allowing a degree of familiarity.

"Oh, it's wonderful," King Edmund said with quiet, genuine cheer. He waved his roll-up back towards golden windows and distant music. "But sometimes, what one needs to appreciate festive noise is a moment of companionable quiet."
Original Prompt:

As long as it centers on Edmund, I'm good. :) Something happy that maybe somehow involves smoking and/or fencing.

What a terrific fill! The idea of pinching the "baccy" thereby breaking the barrier between monarch and sentry is a very nice touch. There is so much fic about Edmund being angst-filled at the holiday, this is a very nice change of pace where he needs just a bit of companionable quiet to appreciate the party anew.

Thank you so much!

I could see Edmund taking a while to process what happened with the White Witch, and what he did, but in general I don't see him as angsty so much as very thoughtful and introverted. For someone like that, stepping away from the party for a bit in order to recharge would be a necessity.

Thank you so much for this! How lovely. I've been ill the past couple of weeks (not to mention having to deal with work and school), and this really made me smile and lightened my heart - I love how quietly happy this is.

Mmmm, this is lovely. I really liked the bits of description you have - you've created quite a evocative setting in so few words.
