Possible Miracle Cures, for [livejournal.com profile] crescent_gaia.

Written by [livejournal.com profile] vialethe.
“Gifts are supposed to make one jolly, Edmund,” Lucy admonishes gently when Susan shepherds in his surprise – a fox, two satyrs and a squirrel family he recalls well, carved stark in his mind. The old fox proposes a toast, and the prickle of claws run like memory down Edmund's back as two young squirrels use him for climbing practice, unafraid of him now, making everything so different from that morning a year past in melting snow that he can think of only one thing to say, forcing words past the lump in his throat.

“But I am.”
Original prompt:

A family Christmas - any type of family, be it one on Narnia or one on Earth or a mix of the both. If they don't want to write that, anything cute of the Caspian/Susan nature works, but I would like it to have a slant on Christmas, please.

This is a terrific use of that iconic part in the book/film -- the first Christmas in 100 years that did not end well, at first, for that merry party. And now, a year later, the squirrels are climbing all over Edmund and it IS so different. This is a lovely drabble!

*poings about* Thank you! I love the imagery and I can see Edmund being how he is with just those three words.

This is beautiful and I think it's wonderful for Edmund to see what a real Christmas in Narnia is like, unlike what he experienced the year before with the Witch at his side.

I like how you took a tiny canon point and turned it into a moment of joy and celebration for Edmund. Well done!

Even in such short a scene, we get that Edmund has grown and learned in the past year and become a much more whole human being. I really love that. I loved seeing the opposite take on what most Narnia writers do - that Edmund here is NOT afraid of Christmas/winter/memories of his past, but really embraces that that is in his past and joy is in his future. That's the way to do it. Beautiful.

Guh...I love a good, emotional Edmund... no matter the emotion! And you captured him perfectly in this reflective moment of his... wonderful!

So good -- to have such a glorious end to the awful sadness of what happened to the little party in LWW. Just a lovely evocation of so many different emotions.
